National Forestry and Protected Areas Project in Trinidad & Tobago

Wednesday, September 30, 2015 @ 10:09 PM

The policy initiatives of the government to address loss of biological diversity and improve management of protected areas resulted in the adoption of protected areas and forestry policies in 2011. Recently, the government, with financial support from the Global Environment Facility, through the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, commenced a four-year protected areas project, titled, ‘Improving Forest and Protected Area Management in Trinidad and Tobago‘.

The project will contribute to development of the national system of protected areas, establish financial mechanisms to support protected areas management, and enhance management effectiveness by building the skills of protected areas staff.
