The Bahamas announces 18 New or Expanded Marine Protected Areas
On August 30, 2015, the Minister of Environment and Housing in the Government of The Bahamas announced the addition of sixteen new marine protected areas, and the expansion of two existing sites. The new additions reportedly allow The Bahamas to exceed the global target of 10% of marine space to be brought into national systems of protected areas. Management of the new sites is vested in The Bahamas National Trust.
